"Wizard and Glass" - The Dark Tower. Casting call
This is my entry for the monthly challenge @ picspammy
"Anything you want to cast. You can cast a favorite book, short-story, comic, play, fairy tale, etc. or you can recast a favorite film or television series. If you felt a movie adaptation of a book did the casting all wrong, do it again. You can focus on however many characters you want in one spam, whether it is just one character or the entire cast."

and here it is..the toughest cast ever XD

I'm slightly becoming a Tower!junkie and...well, i'm trying to imagine the ideal cast for this amazing book, which is the fourth of the saga. It's a tough task, you people. I tell ya. The whole thing is so complex that if a director picks it up one day, he better do a good job and don't screw it up or i'll hafta choke a bitch.

Ka-Tet of the Nineteen Ninety-nine

Viggo Mortensen as Roland Deschain
***because Clint Eastwood is too old***

Roland Deschain, son of Steven Deschain, was born in the Barony of Gilead, in In-World. Roland is the last surviving gunslinger, a man whose only goal is finding and climbing to the top of the Dark Tower, purported to be the very center of existence. This quest is obsession, monomania and geas to Roland: the success of the quest is more important than the lives of his family and friends. He is a man who lacks imagination, and this is one of the stated reasons for his survival against all odds: He can't imagine anything other than surviving to find the Tower.

James Franco or Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Eddie Dean
***sorry, I CAN'T decide! ***

Eddie’s main talent is running his mouth. Eddie is possessed of a quick wit and the propensity to argue, and the more ridiculous he finds a situation, the stronger his urge to comment on it. This talent comes in handy against Blaine the Mono, when Eddie confounds the train with his nonsense jokes.

or

Naomie Harris as Susannah Dean
Susannah is Eddie's lifelong love and one of Roland's faithful companions.
Her background can be found
here in the "In NY" part.

Chase Ellison as Jake Chambers
His background here

Roland's original Ka-Tet

Henry Cavill as Roland Deschain
[ This one? The hardest to choose. You need the right mix of blue eyes (because the bombardier eyes are fundamental, yep)/badassey/tormented soul and my bb Henry looks like the most suitable one for the young Roland.]

Roland becomes a gunslinger at the age of fourteen, coerced into his test of manhood by Marten, his father’s wizard. Roland defeats his teacher, Cort, with an unusual weapon: his hawk, David. David is just the first in a long line of sacrifices Roland makes in his quest for The Dark Tower. He inherits his father’s apprentice guns as a sign of his rite of passage.

Roland is the youngest ever to become a gunslinger. His father had previously been the youngest, having passed his test at the age of sixteen.

Roland meets and falls in love with
Susan Delgado. This is the one woman who has ever made Roland consider a fate other than his precious Tower

True love, like any other strong and addicting drug, is boring -- once the tale of encounter and discovery is told, kisses quickly grow stale and caresses tiresome... except, of course, to those who share the kisses, who give and take the caresses while every sound and color of the world seems to deepen and brighten around them. As with any other strong drug, true first love is really only interesting to those who have become its prisoners.

Taylor Kitsch as Cuthbert Allgood

Known for his unyiElding sense of humor, Cuthbert was Roland’s best friend and most trusted ally.
The boy has the ability to remember every name, face and nuance of any situation he encounters. He is handsome; Susan Delgado thinks she may have fallen in love with Cuthbert herself, had she met him first.
Cuthbert is also very skilled in the use of the slingshot, having the ability to hit a flying bird from sixty yards away.

.
[I guess I've been him in mind since the first time I read about Cuthbert. I know, the members of the Ka-Tet are way younger than these actors but I like to imagine them like this...]

Brady Corbet or Micheal Pitt as Alain Johns.

Clever and sensitive,
Alain is strong in the Touch, a form of psychic ability.

Because of his stocky build and quiet nature, Alain is often mistaken for a dullard. Nothing could be further from the truth. Quiet and introspective, Alain is known for his thoughtful consideration of problems and ability to sense when something is going wrong. He is naturally a diplomat and is often the voice of reason in volatile situations.

---
---

Christian Bale
as Steven Deschain
Steven, also know as Roland the Elder, is Roland Deschain's father and ruler of the Affiliation.

Steven is called the last Lord of Light, due to the fact that he is the last ruler before the fall of Gilead. Steven is twenty-ninth on a sideline of descent from
Arthur Eld, who was the King of All-World. Before Roland passed his test at fourteen, Steven had been the youngest ever to best Cort in battle age the age of sixteen.
He's characterized by his slim build and handlebar mustache. He carried the true gunslinger's weapons, six-shooters with sandalwood grips, until passing them on to his son after Roland proved himself in Hambry.

Steven was betrayed by Marten, his wizard, who cuckholded him by taking his wife, Gabrielle, as his lover. Steven had known of this affair for two years before his son took his test of manhood, but did nothing to stop it.

[Yeah, I found a spot for senor Bale too. I needed him again as a gunslinger, after "3:10 to Yuma"]

Amy Gumenick as Susan Delgado

Roland Deschain/Will Dearborn's true love.

She seemed to feel the ground move beneath her, and later she would think that for the first and only time in her life she had actually felt ka, a wind that came not from the sky but from the earth.
[...]
'If you love me, then love me'
'Aye, lady. I will'

[ I LOVED her as the young Mary Winchester in Supernatural..yeah, the choices you make for love...she know something.]

*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

Helena Bonham Carter as Cordelia Delgado

Gary Oldman as Eldred Jonas

Jonas is the leader of the "Big Coffin Hunters," a gang consisting of himself, Roy Depape, and Clay Reynolds. They all have identical blue coffins tattooed on the webbing between thumb and index finger.

[Gary? Class-A baddie for me.]

The Big Coffin Hunters

Josh Brolin as Clay Reynolds

Clay Reynolds is Eldred Jonas' right-hand man and the quietest of the Big Coffin Hunters.

Kevin Durand as Roy Depape

Arguably the shortest-tempered of the Big Coffin Hunters, Roy Depape's hot-headedness is one of the major catalysts for events in Wizard and Glass

Great choices! Some of these are REALLY spot-on. I wouldn't necessarily have thought of James Franco for Eddie, but now that you've suggested him, I'm fairly certain he's going to look like that in my head forever. ;)

That James Franco photoshoot with the gun struck me and I was like " How coooome I didn't think about him before? 0.o" he's so smartass and he can pull a perfect stoned/junkie..and he's amazing in many ways, so yeah XD

Is there anyone in the world who DOESN'T picture Viggo as Roland? :) Seriously for me it's so obvious that he *IS* Roland, period.

And I really like your cast too, your Cuthbert is perfect.

(this is a really awesme challange at picspammy BTW.)

yeah, leaving out Clint Eastwood, Viggo IS Roland <3

ghhhh i'm so glad you like my choice for Bert, Taylor is the reason I started all this (and I have a massive crush on both the actor and the character so.. XD) because I've had him in my mind first and then the other followed

(absolutely **)
Impossible Princess: Cuddy: WINdoctors_girl on October 27th, 2008 10:29 pm (UTC)
Wizard And Glass is my favourite book from the Dark Tower series and I like to think in pictures while reading, I imagine people and actors in the roles, but I always had a hard time to picture Roland's old ka-tet. I think that's the reason this novel would be most difficult to made into film (and I just love you chose this one for the challange), the young actors must be just as good as the main characters. Young Roland, that's quite a a challange for one thing. And I have to admit I don't know the actor your chose for Bert and the actress you chose for Susan, but I like both choices very much.
And Jake is a very tough choice too, he's the one I could never name an actor I can imagine playing him. But this boy you chose looks great for Jake.
And Kevin Durrand, OMG, what a great choice! He's such a high class badass. Such ans Gary Oldman, and also A+ for Helena as Cordelia Delgado. Oh, Chris Bale as Steven Deshain, this is such an amazing cast. I'm just wondering who could play the witch Rhea and Sheemie.
°° £å §âM¥ °°: FNL * Tim Riggins <3lasamy on October 27th, 2008 10:57 pm (UTC)
I'm 3/4 through the book and made sure with my Tower!geeky sidekick that there weren't other characters to cover before starting..I decided because it's soo good and my fav so far (I'm a new Tower!junkie but when i get addicted, i do it for real *lol*)..I have cheated a bit and read a bit of the graphic novels, which are soo good XD

The actor I chose for Bert is from Friday Night Lights (I know him from there) and he's also going to star in the new Wolverine movie, where he's Gambit.
The actress for Susan is pretty unknown..she was a guest star in Supernatural but with a key-role and she totally nailed it..plus she's so pretty **

Jake is a very tough choice too, he's the one I could never name an actor I can imagine playing him
me neither, until I saw Fireflies in the garden and that kid was just great there...that I wrote down his name XD

eee Durrand is purrrrfect for that. Well, I admit I'd have chosen half of the 3:10 to Yuma cast..Bale as Dan Evans was amazing and I needed to put him somewhere..if not Roland, another badass class-A gunslinger.

Gary Oldman would be perfect in any role but Jonas, man, he's the main baddie and Gary is a master of that..plus he's got the look of how I've always imagined Eldred.

I have actually no clue for Sheemie...while i'd have chosen maybe Susan Sarandon made really really ugly for Rhea? Idk, I saw her in Enchanted (totally watched it for McDreamy *g*) and she was a great witch there.
Impossible Princess: Skate: your cage or mine?doctors_girl on October 27th, 2008 11:12 pm (UTC)
I'm sure you will enjoy the rest of the book too. :) Wizard And Glass is so amazing, such an epic novel. I'm a big fan of the Dark Tower series, but this part is the most special for me. Love how the flashbacks bring us to a completely different world, and a different ka-tet, and we see why Eddie reminds Roland on Cuthbert, and how everyone started with young Roland, how those stories he keeps telling his ka-tet actually happened.

Oh, Friday Night Lights, a show I REALLY want to watch, just haven't started it somehow. Everyone says it's great and I'm almost sure I will like it too, once I start.

I haven't seen a kid actor who was talented enough to play Jake, wich is about the hardest role for a kid ever, but it's good to know there's someone. :) I really need to remember his name then.

And I agree, Chris Bale would make a perfect gunslinger, but he's not Roland.

Susan Sarandon is actually a great idea, I agree she would make an excellent evil witch. ;)

I have no idea if there would ever be a film adaptation of the Dark Tower series (OK, almost certainly it will, but still), but I'm somehow scared of it. It's essential to choose the perfect actors. I love these characters so much.
°° £å §âM¥ °°: The Dark Tower * Roland kneelin'lasamy on October 27th, 2008 11:30 pm (UTC)
I'm so loving all this Roland telling Eddie, Suze, Jake and Oy (OMG OY I WANT ONE, btw XD) around the fire..and it's like months have passed but it's just a little while. And yes, the first time I read about Bert and Roland banters I was "Damn nooow I know why Roland said that about him and Bert, oh *_*"

Oh you really should watch FNL..it's made of any kind of awesome..the stories, the actors and the cinematography, I love to pieces the way it's shot. ..and you'll love Tim Riggins XDD

I've read about this movie project too, JJ Abrahams in person if i'm not wrong, isn't it? It's still all hypothetical because nothing can be done until "Lost" is wrapped up but when I read it I was squeeing like nobody but also was scared of the idea. I agree, it's absolutely essential to get the casting right (I'd have wanted to find a spot for Josh Holloway too because yeah, he could be a superduper!gunslinger or it's just me that want him with chaps and cowboy boots all dusty and dirty on a horse...) because this could be huge, like LOTR!huge if made properly. I swear, if they screw Roland or Eddie or Bert, i'll cut ten bitches.
Impossible Princess: Sawyer: my herodoctors_girl on October 27th, 2008 11:43 pm (UTC)
Aw, Oy, I adore him. About him I totally have a distinct picture in my head, which could be totally different from a filmmakers', I just hope once the movie happens he will be not some lame CGI-creature, but a really cool one.

I read about JJ being interested in the project and I squeed for like a week about it, LOL. But I've never heard about it again, so I don't know if it's really happening or it was only a rumour. But. If there's anyone I would REALLY trust to make this right, it's JJ. And I'm also okay if we have to wait until the end of Lost, because Lost needs a proper ending and they have to give it all the attention it deserves. And if the filming of The Dark Tower starts after it with JJ directing, I'm okay with that. And I think the same, it could be LOTR!huge if they find a filmmaker who cares about the project like PJ cared about LOTR. How I wish a Dark Tower fan filmmaker would do it.

Roland, Eddie and Bert are your fave charcters too? Because they are mine. :) And I won't lie, I would be majorly disappointed if they cast anyone else, not Viggo. I basically couldn't see anyone else in this role. I started reading the books, and his picture on a horse, being scruffy and sunburn and looking fierce popped in my head and it struck.

LOL, how I wish Josh would have a part in it too! He would be a kickass gunslinger for sure. Maybe even Roland. If I could see anyone else than Viggo, that is. want him with chaps and cowboy boots all dusty and dirty on a horse ->LOL, me too. :)

And I never thought of Joseph as Eddie. That's great. I just always pictured Ewan McGregor from his Trainspotting role. :)
And I thought maybe Kodi Smit-McPhee who's in The Road with Viggo. I can't wait to see that film.
